How the date difference calculator works
Complete calendar years and months are counted first, then the remaining calendar days. The same span is also expressed as a single total in days, weeks and hours so the duration can be read in whichever unit the task needs.

Does the order of the two dates matter?
No. The span is reported as a positive duration and the result states which date came first.
Why not divide the total days by 30 to get months?
Calendar months range from 28 to 31 days, so complete-month arithmetic matches the dates people actually entered.
