How the business days calculator works
The calculator walks each UTC calendar date and counts Monday through Friday. It does not infer public or company holidays.
Counting clock time within a day rather than calendar days? The hours calculator measures the hours and minutes between two times, the time card calculator totals a week of shifts, the add time calculator adds or subtracts durations, and the military time converter switches between 24-hour and AM/PM times. The rest are in the time calculators collection.
Example
Business days calculator example
2 September to 30 September 2026 spans 29 calendar days but only 21 weekdays, because four full weekends fall inside the range. Any public holiday in that month would reduce the working-day count further.
FAQ
Business days calculator FAQ
Are public holidays excluded?
No. Holiday rules vary by country, region and employer, so the calculator counts weekdays only. Subtract the holidays that apply to your jurisdiction from the result.
What is the difference between a weekday and a working day?
A weekday is any Monday to Friday. A working day also excludes public holidays and any company shutdown, so the working-day count is usually equal to or lower than the weekday count.
Are both dates counted?
Yes, when they fall Monday through Friday. The breakdown also shows the count with the end date excluded, which is what delivery and settlement windows normally mean.
Can I change the working week?
Not in this version. It models the common Monday-to-Friday week, so it will overcount for a six-day week and undercount for a four-day week.
How do I count every calendar day instead?
Use the days between dates calculator, which counts weekends and holidays alongside weekdays.
Why do business-day counts matter?
Payment terms, shipping estimates, notice periods and settlement windows are usually expressed in business days rather than calendar days, so the two counts diverge over any range longer than a week.
