How the military time converter works
Military time counts the hours of the day from 00 to 23, written as four digits with no colon: 0000 is midnight and 2359 is one minute before the next midnight. To convert to standard time, hours 01 to 11 keep their number with AM, 12 becomes 12 PM, hours 13 to 23 have 12 subtracted and take PM, and 00 becomes 12 AM. Converting the other way reverses those steps.
Once a start and end time are converted, the hours calculator gives the hours between them and the time card calculator totals a week of shifts. To add or subtract durations rather than clock times, use the add time calculator. The full set is in the time calculators collection.

Example
Military time converter example
1430 is 2:30 PM because 14 minus 12 is 2. 0015 is 12:15 AM, fifteen minutes after midnight. 7:05 PM is 1905 because 7 plus 12 is 19.
FAQ
Military time converter FAQ
How do I convert military time to standard time?
If the first two digits are 13 or more, subtract 12 and add PM, so 1700 is 5:00 PM. 1200 to 1259 is PM without subtracting. 0000 to 0059 is 12 AM. 0100 to 1159 is the same number with AM.
How do I convert standard time to military time?
For PM times from 1:00 to 11:59, add 12 to the hour, so 3:45 PM is 1545. 12 PM stays 12, so noon is 1200. 12 AM becomes 00, so 12:30 AM is 0030. Other AM times keep their hour with a leading zero, so 9:10 AM is 0910.
Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
This converter uses 0000 for midnight at the start of a day. Some schedules write 2400 for the end of a day; that is the same moment as 0000 the following day.
Is military time the same as 24-hour time?
They use the same 24-hour clock. Military time is usually written as four digits without a colon (1430), while everyday 24-hour time is often written with one (14:30).
How is military time said out loud?
It is commonly read as the four digits, often followed by hours, so 1400 is fourteen hundred hours and 0630 is zero six thirty.
Does military time use AM and PM?
No. Each of the 24 hours has its own number, which removes the ambiguity between, for example, 7 AM and 7 PM.
