How the time difference calculator works
Both times are read as clock times on the same day, with no time zone attached. Clock values are converted to minutes after midnight. When the end is earlier than the start, the calculator treats the end as occurring the following day.

No. Subtract break duration separately from the elapsed result.
Does it account for daylight-saving transitions?
No. This tool has no date or zone attached, so it measures clock time only. Use the time zone converter when the two times are in different places.

How do I convert the result to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. Eight hours 30 minutes is 8.5 hours, which is the form most timesheets and payroll systems expect.
