What a portfolio allocation calculator can—and cannot—decide.

An allocation calculator makes the mix between asset classes visible. It cannot know your full circumstances or choose a suitable portfolio for you.

Start with the decision, not a percentage

Allocation is a trade-off between possible growth, variability, liquidity and the date you need the money. Enter a mix only after separating short-term cash needs from long-term investing goals.

Check the weights and the assumptions

A useful model makes each allocation visible and ensures the percentages add to the whole portfolio. Review whether the assumed return, inflation and time horizon are consistent with the goal.

Connect allocation to costs and risk

Use the portfolio allocation calculator alongside the investment fee calculator and inflation guide. A mix that looks attractive before fees or inflation can answer the wrong planning question.
