The concept

What this calculates

Goods and Services Tax is a percentage-based tax added to the price of most goods and services in India, applied at rates set by the GST Council.

This calculator adds GST to a base (tax-exclusive) amount. It does not split the result into CGST/SGST/IGST components or handle composition-scheme or exempt-item rules.

The method

How the calculation works

The GST rate is applied directly to the entered base amount to compute the tax amount, which is then added to the base to produce the total payable. Real invoices may split GST across central, state and integrated components depending on the transaction type.

GST = A × r/100; Total = A + GST

A is the base amount and r is the GST rate as a percentage.

Worked example

A neutral example

A base amount of ₹1,000 at an 18% GST rate produces a GST amount of ₹180 and a total payable of ₹1,180.

This example explains the method. It does not recommend a financial action or predict an outcome.

Frequently asked

GST Calculator questions

Does this calculate GST already included in a price?+

No. This calculator adds GST to a tax-exclusive base amount. To back out GST from a tax-inclusive price, divide the inclusive price by (1 + rate/100) to find the base amount first.

Does this split GST into CGST and SGST?+

No. It reports only the total GST amount, not its central/state/integrated split.

Are all GST rates supported?+

Enter any rate; 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% are the most common current slabs in India.
