Method
How to calculate estimated fuel cost
Keep the distance, economy and price units consistent: miles with miles per gallon, or kilometres with kilometres per litre.
Worked example
Fuel-cost calculator example
A 420-mile trip at 30 mpg requires 14 gallons before multiplying by pump price.
Change one assumption at a time to see what drives the result. The output is an estimate, not a quote, forecast or recommendation.
FAQ
Fuel-cost calculator FAQ
Can I use kilometres and litres?
Yes. Enter kilometres, kilometres per litre and price per litre consistently.
Why can actual trip cost be higher?
Traffic, speed, terrain, weather, payload and idling can reduce real fuel economy.
Does this include tolls?
No. The output isolates fuel so tolls, parking and other trip costs can be added separately.
